Ballet Folklorico Alexa Zozaya (BFAZ) was founded the 13th of May 2021 under the artistic direction of Alexa Zozaya. The primary goal of BFAZ is to preserve and showcase Mexican culture and traditions for future generations as well as providing a place for people of all ages to experience the richness of our culture through dance.

Alexa Zozaya, Artistic DirectorMaestra Alexa Zozaya is the founder and Artistic Director of Ballet Folklorico Alexa Zozaya (BFAZ) in Tucson, Arizona. Prior to that, she was Artistic Director for Grupo Folklorico Miztontli at the University of Arizona from 2018 to 2022. Alexa has performed across the U.S. Southwest, including California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and Texas, as well as in South America and several states in Mexico.
Alexa has over 20 years of experience dancing in the style of Mexican ballet folklórico and is certified as a “Specialist in Traditional Mexican Dance Techniques'' by the Ballet Folklorico del Estado de Veracruz and the Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP) in Mexico. Additionally, she is a member of the Sonora state delegation of the Asociación de Coreógrafos Folkloristas de México, A.C. (ACFMAC) and was an Assistant Instructor for the Tucson International Mariachi Conference (TIMC) in 2022. Since 2021, Alexa and her students have performed, participated, and placed in multiple competitions at events at home and abroad. These included the Sun City Dance Classic in El Paso, Texas, in 2021 and 2023; the LM International Dance Competition in La Brea, California, in 2021; and most recently at the Concurso Nacional de Polka Nogales ¡Y Arriba Sonora! in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico in 2023. Finally, in July 2022, Ballet Folklorico Alexa Zozay represented Arizona (USA) and Sonora (Mexico) at the Festival Iberoamericano de Danza Tradicional in Bogotá, Colombia and will soon be doing a tour in central Mexico |
